The Vernon Blog
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)

Save Silver Star Provincial Park
The Citizens' Coalition to Save Silver Star Provincial Park is an ad hoc committee of concerned British Columbians who care deeply about the future of Silver Star Provincial Park. The park is threatened on many fronts, and the coalition has initiated this website as a public service to inform British Columbians of what is happening in this beautiful park. Almost 40% of the park has been deleted and added to the private ski resort's Controlled Recreation Area, and future deletions are likely. A disturbing trend is developing at Silver Star Mountain, wherein land is initially deleted from the park for recreational uses, then later rezoned for fee simple property development.

Why I quit my job
Kai Nagata was CTV's Quebec City Bureau Chief, until he quit last week. He wrote an enlightening manifesto that calls for a new testament for journalism.

....Human beings don’t always like good nourishment. We seem to love white sugar, and unless we understand why we feel nauseated and disoriented after binging on sweets, we’ll just keep going. People like low-nutrition TV, too. And that shapes the internal, self-regulated editorial culture of news.....Meanwhile, the people who are supposed to be holding decision makers to account are instead broadcasting useless tripe, or worse, stories that actively distract from the massive projects we need to be tackling instead of watching TV...

Explore a great piece of writing and learn just how bad our media is.

Prison Town, USA?
How about Prison Town, Lumby, BC?
What happens when a struggling rural community
tries to revive its economy by inviting prisons in?

This is the question that prompted two American film-makers to document the unintended consequences of building a prison in a small, rural community that was the post-card picture of bucolic life under majestic mountain peaks.

It also happens to be a burning question for many residents of the Lumby area whose mayor and former councillor, Kevin Acton, has been actively lobbying the provincial government for years to bring a prison to town, despite growing protest.

Pro-Jailers label No-Jailers as CAVE people
Paul and Jo-Anne Fisher sent a letter to Lumby Village council outlining their concern over comments made at the May 2, 2011 council meeting when the Concerned Citizens group was labeled “CAVE people” an acronym for “Citizens Against Virtually Everything” by Doug Brown, representing a group called “Lumby Initiative for a New Economy”. In this video clip council is seen discussing the issue and their response to the Fisher’s letter.
